Meet the Mechanics

Dina Griffin

MS, RDN, CSSD, CISSN, METS II
Owner & Founder, Chief Fueling Officer

I’m Dina, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and an "adult onset" endurance athlete. I work with active adults ages 40-75 and endurance athletes who want nutrition that supports performance, resilience, and long-term health, without extremes or gimmicks.

My path to sports nutrition wasn’t linear. I began my career as a software consultant, drawn to analytical problem-solving but wanting work that felt more meaningful.

That shift came through lived experience: seeing how nutrition supported my dad’s quality of life during terminal cancer, and learning firsthand how improper fueling can derail a race goal.

Those experiences sparked a deep curiosity about how the body responds to stress, training, and nutrition. I later went on to earn my Master of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Colorado State University and specialize in sports nutrition.

Eventually, I built The Nutrition Mechanic in 2018 to do the work I care most about: helping active and athletic people fuel in a way that is life-changing AND provides durability for the long haul.

MORE ABOUT DINA'S WORK

Many of my clients are consistent, motivated, and already doing a lot “right.” What they’re missing isn’t effort, it’s clarity. They want to know how to fuel their body, at this stage of life, for the training and goals they actually have.

My work focuses on:

  • Practical daily nutrition that supports training, recovery, and longevity with an emphasis on women’s health

  • Endurance fueling strategies that reduce guesswork and GI issues while supporting performance goals

  • Navigating aging, changing physiology, or health conditions while staying active

  • Using targeted testing data to guide informed decisions and set a plan in motion for success

The process is collaborative, realistic, and grounded in real life. Nutrition should support your training and your life, not feel like a second job. And yes, we usually have some fun along the way.

If you’re an active adult or endurance athlete who wants clear, individualized nutrition guidance that evolves with you, you’re in the right place.

I don’t just coach endurance athletes, I live the process myself. I’ve competed in marathons such as Boston and NYC, ultrarunning events (Leadville and RunRabbitRun), triathlons (Ironman CDA), and various cycling events, and I’ve supported athletes behind the scenes at some of the toughest endurance events in the world. These experiences help shape how I approach fueling, recovery, and long-term performance.

I understand the demands of training, the mental load of chasing goals, and the challenge of balancing sport with the rest of life. That perspective matters even more as bodies, priorities, and recovery needs change over time.

I work with athletes across a wide range of abilities, from newbies to recreational to professional. Some recent athletes I’ve supported include:

  • Megan Eckert, elite ultrarunner
  • Syd & Macky, professional mountain bikers

  • Kevin Goldberg, multiple 200+ mile finisher

  • Anna Strehlow, professional triathlete

  • Don Reichelt, elite ultrarunner

I’m the co-host of the Inside Sports Nutrition podcast with colleague Bob Seebohar, where we explore sports nutrition topics through an evidence-informed yet “real life” lens.

I’ve also contributed to podcasts, webinars, conferences, and publications focused on endurance sport, fueling, and menopause health. At the core of all of this work is the same goal: helping active people cut through noise, understand their unique needs better, and create nutrition frameworks they can actually sustain.

Rebecca Rick

MS, RDN, CSSD

I’m a sports dietitian, endurance athlete, and mountain enthusiast with a deep love for helping athletes thrive in training, competition, and life. My career has taken me from supporting first‑time ultrarunners to working with Olympic athletes through organizations like U.S. Ski & Snowboard and U.S. Speedskating. As an ultrarunner myself, I’ve finished—and won—some of the sport’s most challenging events, including the Moab 240 and the Wasatch 100. Many of my proudest accomplishments have been passion projects outside the race setting but still in the mountains exploring my physical and mental limits.

I know firsthand how powerful nutrition can be—and how quickly things can unravel without the right strategy. That’s why I’m committed to helping endurance athletes feel strong, confident, and capable in their bodies. Whether someone is training for their first 50K or tackling multi‑day efforts, I love guiding clients toward sustainable habits that support both performance and long‑term health.

MORE ABOUT BECCA'S WORK

I take a highly individualized approach to performance nutrition. No two athletes are the same, and I don’t believe in one‑size‑fits‑all plans. I work with each athlete to build a strategy that evolves with their training—not one that relies on rigid meal plans or generic formulas. My goal is to help athletes understand their own fueling needs so they can make confident decisions in the real world, not just follow instructions on a page.

At the same time, I embrace a weight‑inclusive, athlete‑centered framework that honors both the functional and enjoyable roles of food. My work blends sports science with intuitive eating principles to help athletes reconnect with internal cues, build trust in their bodies, and fuel in a way that supports performance, health, and pleasure.
